We are teaming up with Project sWish to have 10-15 male high school chess students participate the 27 Hours of Peace event at Kennedy King College from February 24, 10 am – February 25, 1 PM.
The students will spend part of the time at the chess pavilion playing/teaching chess to the other participants.
Students interested in participating in the 27 hours of peace at Kennedy King College need to complete the INTEREST FORM.
This is an outside event and the parents of the students selected will have to complete a permission form and arrange for their child to be dropped off and picked up from the college.
The Greater Chicago K-12 Championship will take place at McCormick Place. The tournament features 4 sections that are divided into subsections based on a player’s US Chess rating. Students will be provided with a US Chess membership if they don’t already have one. Students with expired memberships will be renewed.
Schools are limited to bringing 25 students to this tournament. Registration is open through January 24.
The High School Championship and the K-8 Kings & Queens tournament will take place this year at Senn High School.
HIGH SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP
The event features 3 sections: 8-player Varsity team, 5-player Junior Varsity team, and Open sections. Registration open January 1 – 10. There is no restriction on the number of teams / players that a school can register.
This is a 5-board team tournament. Teams must have a minimum of 4 players to compete and schools can only register 2 teams. Registration open January 1 – 10.
Our December Cops & Kids tournament will take place at Parker Community Academy. The tournament is open students in grades 5-12 from schools participating in this year’s Cops & Kids Program. Registration takes place from November 20 – 29.
The Department of Academic Competitions anticipates sending 80 students in grades 7 through 12 to the US Chess High School National Tournament in Baltimore, MD. from April 4 – 8, 2024.
Here is the letter with details on the trip, selection criteria, and the form that needs to be completed by the school’s administration to confirm your school’s interest by Friday, December 1, 2023. Selected schools will be announced by Friday, December 8, 2023.
Schools will need to cover the cost of meals for students and chaperones from lunch on Thursday, April 4 through breakfast on Monday, April 8. Below is the Meal & Incidental Expense for Baltimore from the U.S. General Services Administration. Per the CPS Employee Travel & Work-Related Expense Reimbursements Manual, the standard meal and incidental expenses per diem rate is set at the GSA rate for the city/county/region … School’s will need to provide/reimburse the funds for meals to their school chaperones for their students and chaperones.
