Our Cops & Kids culminating event will take place at Stanton Park. The tournament is open students in grades 5-12 from schools participating in this year’s Cops & Kids Program. Registration takes place from November 20 – 29.
K-8 Championship Results
After 5 rounds of intense competition, this year’s K-8 championship teams and individuals were crowned. All the players enjoyed the day and at the end they all walked away as winners having advanced to the final stage of the 2023-2024 chess season.

May 21 – Tuesday Knights Rapid
Our weekly online chess tournament takes place weekly on Tuesdays at 6PM and held online through ChessKid. The tournament is open to all all CPS students who have a ChessKid account with the CPS Enterprise account.
March 16 – CPS K-8 Playoffs
Our K-8 North & South Side Playoffs have been moved to March 16th
This year’s tournament will be taking place at Senn High School. Registration is open from February 26 – March 6 by school coaches only. Schools are limited to 15 players.
Busing may be available for your school and the request must be submitted online using the form on the event page by March 6.
ADVANCEMENT TO ELEMENTARY CHAMPIONSHIP
The top 3 teams and the top 4 individuals not associated with an advancing team in each section will advance to the K-8 Championship taking place on March 23. Advancing teams are limited to 5 players.

SUMMER CHESS CAMPS
For 2024 we are offering 3 in-person Summer Chess Experience Camps for students entering grades 5-12 at Whitney Young Magnet High School. Students need to have previous chess experience and must have participated in their school’s Academic Chess and/or Cops & Kids Chess programs.
This year, we are implementing a selection process to determine a student’s level of chess engagement and participation. Please note these camps are not for students with no prior chess experience.

Students interested in participating in one of these camps need to complete the SUMMER CHESS EXPERIENCE INTEREST FORM by March 22. Students will be notified via email by April 5 if they are selected to attend. Females may request to participate in both the Queens camp and the High School or Middle School camp.
April 12-14 – KCF All-Girls Nationals
This 3-day US Chess rated tournament takes place at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place Hotel and is open to all girls under 18 years old as of January 1, 2024. Players participate in the following categories: Under 8 years old, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, and under 18; sections.
CPS Academic Competition will only be covering the entry fee and US Chess membership for CPS students wanting to play in this tournament. Students will have to cover all other expenses.
Students will need to use the following coupon codes when registering to reduce the entry fee to zero. Must register by April 10th.
