October 30 – The Winning Move: Chess Coaching 101 Workshops

This will be our last Virtual seminar for our new coaches. Designed to enhance their skills and provide ongoing professional development. Led by Senior Trainer Lamar Lockett of Twist and Shout, these interactive workshops will cover various topics, including effective coaching strategies, chess pedagogy, student engagement, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Lamar Lockett brings a wealth of experience and expertise, making these sessions an invaluable resource for new coaching staff. By offering these seminars virtually, we aim to make professional growth accessible and convenient for our coaches, allowing them to connect, share insights, and learn from seasoned professionals. This initiative reflects our commitment to continually improving the quality of our programs and ensuring that our coaches are equipped with the latest tools and knowledge to inspire and support CPS students through the transformative power of chess education.

Workshops take place on select Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 pm via zoom. Check the event calendar for dates and login details.

CPS All-Stars Tournament Recap

This past weekend, we witnessed an outstanding display of talent and teamwork at the CPS All-Stars Tournament. A total of 305 players from 43 schools competed in this highly anticipated event, showcasing the chess prowess of our students. October 19 – CPS All-Stars K-12 Tournament

Registration is now open for our first in-person tournament of the year, the CPS All-Stars Chess Tournament! Students across the district will have the chance to showcase their skills, challenge their peers, and compete for top honors. Registration for this tournament is by school coaches only.

Please note that registration ends on October 9 at Noon, and each school is limited to 15 players. Additionally, the tournament is only open to schools that have completed their Academic Chess MOU.

October 1 – Tuesday Knights Online Rapid Tournaments Returns

We are excited to announce that our popular Tuesday Knights Online Rapid Tournament is back! 🏆 Starting on October 8, join us every Tuesday to compete online in exciting rapid chess battles. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, this is the perfect opportunity to test your skills, challenge others, and have fun! ♟️

Cancellation of the Tuesday Knights Rapid

We regret to inform you that the Tuesday Knights Rapid Tournament scheduled for tonight has been canceled. We understand that this may be disappointing news, but ChessKid is currently having technical issues preventing us from adding CPS into the tournament club.

September 12 – Parent Seminar

Welcome Back Parents!

The Chicago Public Schools Academic Competitions Chess Team will host a virtual informational seminar for parents about the upcoming 2024-25 Academic Chess season on Thursday, September 12, 2024, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM via Zoom.

The seminar is limited to 100 participants. If we reach our limit, we will add an additional seminar .

Participants are required to register in advance for this meeting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. To confirm your attendance, please complete your registration no later than September 11, 2024.

You’re invited to this year’s Academic Chess and Cops & Kids Coaches Meeting, which will be held online via Zoom on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. Please note that advance registration is required. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to join the meeting.

It’s mandatory for every school to have a coach or administrator present at the coaches’ meeting.
