Congratulations to FM Avi Kaplan of Lane Tech College Prep for an extraordinary achievement at the 2024 National K-12 Grade Championships, held December 6-8 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland! Competing among more than 2,700 players from 45 states in the largest K-12 Grade Championships in US Chess history, Avi tied for 1st place in the 12th grade section, marking his second consecutive year at the top. This incredible accomplishment highlights Avi’s dedication, skill, and commitment to excellence in chess. Well done, Avi—your success continues to inspire us all!

Cops & Kids Event Recap

The Cops & Kids Chess Initiative hosted a dynamic event that brought together 80 students from 14 different schools across Chicago to interact with Chicago Police Officers. Held as part of this impactful year-round program, the event emphasized the power of chess to bridge gaps and foster positive engagement between youth and law enforcement officers. Students showcased their strategic skills in friendly competition, while police officers joined in to play and connect with the participants. This collaborative effort not only strengthened community ties but also highlighted the transformative role of chess in promoting non-violence and mutual understanding.
