The 11 schools were selected represented a diversity of schools across the city including several Level 3 schools. 4 of the schools selected had never participated in a national Chess tournament before. The schools are Haley, Kinzie, Monroe, Decatur, Garcia HS, Jones HS, Lincoln Park HS, Payton HS, Solorio HS, Taft HS, and Englewood STEM HS.
In addition to the students on the Academic Chess trip, additional schools and students traveled on their own to compete in the tournament. In all CPS had 131 students compete in this year’s HS Championship.
