Training & Tournaments
CPS has purchased an Enterprise Account with ChessKid.com and will provide Gold Memberships to students and coaches participating in the Academic Chess Program. To take part in any online programming, all students and coaches must have their ChessKid accounts linked to the CPS Enterprise Account, which is organized by school. In addition, all student and coach usernames must follow CPS standards.

Username Requirements
In accordance with the CPS Acceptable Use Policy for E‑Learning and communication with students, the following guidelines must be followed:
All ChessKid account usernames must follow this pattern:
School Name + Student’s First Name (or alternate name) + Number (if needed for duplicates)
Examples: CantyDavid · CantyDavid2 · CantyChesskid
Non‑Academic Chess Students
Students at CPS schools not in an Academic Chess program may participate in our online tournaments.
Requirements :
- Complete the Parental Permission Form.
- Email a copy of the form to David Heiser at daheiser@cps.edu
- After receiving the form, we will either:
Create a new ChessKid Basic membership, or
Send you the Registration Key to link your existing account with the CPS Enterprise Account
Academic Chess Students
Students at CPS schools with an Academic Chess program must go through their school’s chess coach.
Requirements :
- Parental Permission
- Coaches must have a signed Parental Permission Form on file
- New Accounts
A ChessKid account will be created at the request of their school’s chess coach
- Existing Accounts
Obtain a Registration Key from your coach
Follow the provided directions to associate your account with the CPS Enterprise Account
Students transferring in with existing accounts must update their usernames to comply with the above format.

Manual Pairing Instructions (Coaches)
How to Manually Pair Students on ChessKid
From the home screen, click Play → Play vs. Kid.
Students must be waiting in Fast Chess to be paired.
Pair one match at a time using match commands:
/match Username1 Username2 5 1/match Username1 Username2 15
(Username1 = White, Username2 = Black; first number = minutes per side; second = increment)
Students must report their results, or you can check their game history.
Students must be in the same club or group to be paired.
- Enter match commands in the message tab of Fast Chess, then press Enter to start the game.
